A new medical centre at Waterford Plaza in Karawara is already experiencing high demand, with 150 new patients signing up with the practice in the past two weeks.
It has been established by Park Medical Group to address a critical shortage of doctors in the area and was opened on November 11 by Premier Roger Cook.
Managing director Raj Selvendra said the Waterford Plaza location enabled Park Medical Group to operate five days a week.
It also provided easy access and parking.
“We wanted to be able to meet the needs of families, seniors and young professionals who are all juggling a range of commitments to access health care in a timelier fashion,” Mr Selvendra said.
“Waterford Plaza is a common destination for many locals, so it makes sense to offer medical services at the same place where people are doing their weekly grocery shop, buying their Lotto, enjoying a meal with friends or picking up a parcel from the post office.”
Park Medical has three practitioners offering a range of medical services, including childhood immunisations, antenatal care, chronic disease management and iron fusions.
Mr Selvendra said Park Medical Group was planning to expand its Karawara centre with more doctors rooms, a new pathology centre and more allied health practitioner rooms in 2025.
