Cockburn Gateway Shopping City opened Phase I of its $45 million redevelopment on Monday 13th November 2006 to a very positive reception. Retail property experts and market leaders Lease Equity are responsible for the redevelopment.
The first phase of the two part redevelopment has taken the centre from 10,500sqm to approx 13,500sqm. Phase II will extend the centre to 29,900sqm and is due for completion in August 2007.
Phase I has seen the opening of new larger Woolworths Supermarket and Woolworths Liquor stores, in addition to over 40 new specialty stores including national retailers such as Red Dot, Australia Post, Gloria Jeans, Dick Smith Electronics, Just Spectacles, Bakers Delight, Lenard’s Poultry, BankWest and ANZ Bank.
Phase II will add a Big W Discount Department store, Best & Less, new food court and approximately 55 new specialty stores.
Cockburn Gateway Shopping City is designated as Perth’s next Regional Shopping Centre by the WA Planning Commission with the status of a Strategic Regional Centre with permission granted to increase to 50,000sqm in the future.
Lease Equity Managing Director, Jim Tsagalis, confirmed “The response from the retailers has been outstanding. Whilst the demand was anticipated to be great, the response has been overwhelming”.
Phase II has received a similar response from national retailers with pre-commitment including Jeans West, Man to Man, Ed Harry, House, Price Attack, Novo, Sheils and Prouds. These together with a number of prominent local retailers have contributed to pre-commitment of this phase being at approximately 40%.
“We expect the take up to continue to be strong, particularly now that Phase I has been completed and is now trading” Mr Tsagalis continued. “We have a number of other negotiations nearing completion with national retailers and will announce their inclusion shortly”.
Opportunities are still available to join the outstanding mix of national and local retailers at Cockburn Gateway Shopping City, however interest is strong and the remaining space is filling fast. The centre is currently interested in locating quality businesses including gifts, a butcher, fashion, music/DVD and books to join the thriving community.
